Maths unit plans

The old maths unit plans are still available here:
 http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/primary/features/mathematics/maths_unit_plans/1092339
They’re very difficult to get to from the main Primary Strategy site now bcause of the new framework, but are still useful for planning.
This website links the new framework objectives with the unit plans:

Literacy planning – Year 5 Narrative Unit 5 (Film Narrative)

I’m working on planning this unit using the new framework.  So far, I found a few resources that will be helpful.
First, the Framework site itself.  In the resources, there are various files to download, including the video and several interactive whiteboard files.

Another similar animated film is The Beauty of Life, which could be used as [...]

Year 6

It looks like I may be teaching Year 6 next year, so I’m going to start keeping an eye out for resources that look useful!

This section on the Standards site has basic advice on teaching and learning, test preparation and transition.  It also contains links to useful materials such as planning exemplification and booster units.

Primary Framework

Maths
The Lancashire site has some helpful resources and links, including examples of planning.
On the maths site there are medium term plans, both half termly (http://www.lancsngfl.ac.uk/curriculum/math/index.php?category_id=578) and yearly (http://www.lancsngfl.ac.uk/curriculum/math/index.php?category_id=577).
For Block A, there is a similar document to the unit plans that were produced for the old strategy, for example for Year 5:

There’s a good powerpoint explaining [...]

Sherbet lemon activity

There has been a discussion on TES about the sherbet lemon activity.  I’ve managed to find the original (?) idea, so thought I’d post links here:
http://www.teachit.co.uk/attachments/sherbetl.pdf
It’s also been adapted here, with a worksheet: http://members.aol.com/twittwoo/grpdfs/adjectives.pdf
I’ve never taught this myself, but it sounds like a great idea that would get children engaged in a lesson about adjectives [...]

Outstanding Interview Lesson!!

Had an inteview yesterday for position as Literacy Leader.  I got the job and the interview panel were really impressed by my lesson.  So I thought I’d share it on here in case anyone else is stuck for ideas.
The task was to teach a 30 minute lesson to a Year 6 class which [...]

These websites include links to a huge variety of video clips that can be used in literacy as a starter or prompt.

Themed resource boxes – country study

[from Junior Education, August 2006, p.18-19]
Let the children choose a country that really interests them – perhaps China or India, Spain or Brazil, USA or Egypt – and set them off on their quest for exciting items for their resource box.
Collect:

large-scale map, national flag, coins, stamps
national animal and/or flower
traditional items that highlight national identity
musical instruments
small [...]

Team points chart

Team points have proved to be a great motivator for my class, with the members of the winning team receiving a small prize at the end of the week.
This term, with our focus being on geography, I named each table after a continent.  The tables are roughly positioned where that continent is shown on a [...]

Visual timetable

The timetable has become one of the first things my class look at when they arrive in the morning.  The subject cards are adapted from a Widget resource (available on the TES resource bank).  The clock faces were adapted from another website and added when we were studying time in maths.  I try to write learning [...]
