Mental starter – Dingo!
Posted on November 30, 2007 by misskprimary

Objectives:
To develop speed of mental calculations
You will need:
2 dice
Instructions:
Each child has a copy of the board. Two dice are rolled and the children use these two numbers with any operation to make one of the numbers on their board (e.g. a 2 and 4 could be 2×4=8, 2+4=6 or 4-2=2) . They write the operation in the numbered box on their board. The first child to get a row shouts ‘Dingo!’. Play could then continue until someone has a full house. The dice rolls must be fairly quick to keep the pace going.
Adaptations:
- Dice with numbers 1-10
- Dice with decimals / fractions / negative numbers / etc.
- Three or more dice
- Different board (more numbers / different numbers)
- Allow numbers to be used more than once
