Alphabet tubs

I just had to mention these tubs of objects from TTS.  Unfortunately I don’t teach young enough children, so there’s no way I could convince my school to buy these, but there must be all sorts of uses for these collections of objects!

Rhyming sounds:

I’m sure they had some for French as [...]

Film clips

The IESB website has clips from films, for example on this page there are seven clips from Spiderman:

They could be useful for all sorts of literacy activities, for example writing a news report.

Teaching resources on line – maths

http://www.cleavebooks.co.uk/trol/
Lots of really useful maths sheets, including dotty paper, investigations and worksheets.

Free audio stories

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/kids/bigtoe/
This BBC site has a wide range of stories available to listen to online, including stories by authors such as Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman.  They’re in Real Audio formats, so you’ll need to download Real Audio Player.

Another useful website

This website has various resources available to download.  For example, in Resources/English/KS2, there is a powerpoint on myths, using pictures etc. from the FLS module on Persueus and the Gorgon.

More new pages – Homework & Websites

I’ve added another new page, where I’m going to begin collecting links to ideas for homework and also resources to help parents support their child’s learning.
I’ve also added a page where I’m going to store all the websites I use regularly to find teaching ideas and resources.
Click on the tab at the top of the [...]

Free soothing music

This might be useful, either for the classroom or for teachers to relax to!
http://www.freesoothingmusic.com/
At the moment, the choice of music is quite limited, but they’re promising to upload more soon.

The Highwayman

Here’s the planning and resources I used when I taught The Highwayman to my Year 5 class.  I’ve added them as a (quite large) zip file because there are 13 files, including planning, Smart Notebook files, worksheets, the text of the poem and a short list of websites.  I also used a few resources from [...]

Tray labels

Here’s some labels I made last year for my classroom.  Each label has a photo / icon.  When cut up and laminated, they’re just about the right size for standard trays.

Mental maths tests

Following on from a thread on TES, here are the links to mental maths tests.

Both sites have answer sheets similar to the ones used in QCA tests.  The first one covers all year groups from 1 to 6.  The second one has Year 6 tests as an audio file, which will be particularly useful in [...]
