Art based on Ancient Greece topic

This website has really inspired me – the quality of the work produced is excellent!

Another useful website

This website has various resources available to download.  For example, in Resources/English/KS2, there is a powerpoint on myths, using pictures etc. from the FLS module on Persueus and the Gorgon.

The Highwayman

Here’s the planning and resources I used when I taught The Highwayman to my Year 5 class.  I’ve added them as a (quite large) zip file because there are 13 files, including planning, Smart Notebook files, worksheets, the text of the poem and a short list of websites.  I also used a few resources from [...]

Year 5-6 transition: parents booklets

After going on a very brief course about transition from Year 5 to Year 6, I spent a morning with the literacy advisor adapting the parents leaflet produced by the DfES.  We simplified many of the objectives and activities to make it more user-friendly to the sort of parents I work with.  I then produced [...]

Myths & Legends

I came across the BookTrust website today, and thought it might be useful to others.  I was particularly inspired by the myths section and ideas for using The Fire Thief by Terry Deary.

It will link in perfectly with my topic next term on Ancient Greece and also link back to the work I did at [...]

Maths assessment

I’ve recently been made Assessment Co-ordinator, and one of the issues I’m looking at is how we use teacher assessment to generate fine-graded levels (e.g. 3a).  We’re using the Ros Wilson criterion scale to assess writing, and wanted something similar for maths.
I wanted to create a list of Key Objectives for each year group which [...]

Literacy planning – Year 5 Narrative Unit 5 (Film Narrative)

I’m working on planning this unit using the new framework.  So far, I found a few resources that will be helpful.
First, the Framework site itself.  In the resources, there are various files to download, including the video and several interactive whiteboard files.

Another similar animated film is The Beauty of Life, which could be used as [...]
